It was the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal. I watched on television a hitherto unknown Romanian gymnast, barely in her teens, becoming the first in the world to receive a perfect score of 10.0. Nadia Elena Comăneci’s career is a classic tale of dreams taking the flight to reality.
Many a corporate story of diligence, collaboration, patience and achievement has derived parallels from Nadia’s tryst with gymnastics. Nadia won 5 gold medals at the Olympics through sheer hard work and focus. Her story of aim and ambition, coupled with painstaking practice and determination, helping her achieve her goal, in a way, resonates with the TATE story.
TATE completes a decade, and the 10th anniversary has taken me back to Nadia’s path to success, which was laden with challenges.
In the gymnast’s pursuit of perfection, I saw TATE’s relentless stride to push boundaries. The star’s confidence and determination which adds finesse to the sport, is akin to TATE’s emphasis on integrity, transparency, and client-centricity – the core attributes anchoring our foundation.
Amazing achievements, myriad memories, a superb team and excellent clients are what we carry into the next decade. One attribute that I would confidently claim has defined our journey is relentlessness. And this has got us consistent clients and C-Suite professionals who work with us to further their careers.
“The path to greatness is paved with countless hours of dedication and the relentless pursuit of perfection”, said Malcolm Gladwell. My dream for TATE was to push the envelope in the executive recruitment landscape. This called for building relationships with faith and trust.
We started thus with our small, fragile dream and a handful of dedicated professionals who shared a common vision – the pursuit of excellence. The journey, of course, has not been easy. Though challenges kept surfacing, we survived, succeeded with our relentless efforts, and even set the bar higher. We fostered trust among clients and candidates and became a preferred partner to our clients.
Several years in executive search has made me realize that the technical aspects of any search are reasonably straight and uncomplicated. However, the essence of success is in the nuances of the pairing. One of my early efforts was to align the team to this perspective. All our search assignments are based on matching profile to position on skills and competencies, culture and other finer aspects determining compatibility. The seeming worth of a hire could be compensation, but we focus on the mutual value derived by the client and the candidate in entering into a business association. Our search for the star candidate was in every assignment so far, value-focused and not salary-defined. This approach has taken us far into our journey, and the 10-year milestone stands testimony to our approach and efforts.
But beyond tenacity and techniques, I found trust and collaboration are the bedrock of success. The gymnast had a dedicated coach, a supportive team, and an unwavering belief in her abilities, very similar to our team of committed consultants and analysts who work hard to find that perfect candidate for our client.
As I draw these comparisons, I am reminded that greatness is not confined to fleeting moments of perfection or stand-alone milestones. For TATE Consulting, celebrating our 10th anniversary is a milestone indeed, but momentous as it is, it is just a step forward on the path to excellence.
